What We Do
We supply the building industry with the best possible solution for water storage. Whether you are a large Public Utilities District, a small Home Owners Association, or an individual client we have a tank design that will meet the required storage capacity for you building project. We will build you a tank to meet your fire flow requirement and if need, a tank for storing your potable water. We look forward to assisting you with your project.
Our History
Baker Silo started in the mid 1940’s building forage silos for farmers. With Pacific Northwest weather, farmers had a difficult time with getting in dry hay in the first half of the growing season. Silos allowed for harvesting forage when weather was less than ideal and still produced a quality feed for dairy cows. Dairy farming became big in the Whatcom and Skagit County area and a silo or two made perfect sense for the family farm, milking 40 to 80 cows. Most of the silos built were cast in place concrete although for a time in the 70’s, stave silos were also an option.
In the 1960’s, someone came up with the idea of modifying the silo design and engineering them to hold water. The metal dome was removed and a design for a concrete roof was added. New accessories were designed that were consistent with the requirements for potable water storage. Demand for water storage started growing rapidly and Baker Silo soon became 2 dimensional with their line of farm silos and commercial water storage reservoir. Manure management and storage on dairy farms was also becoming an issue for farmers. Again Baker Silo stepped up adding a line of above ground and below ground concrete manure storage solutions.
As time has passed, the small family dairies have given way to much larger commercial dairies. With that change came the need for larger, more economical feed and manure storage solutions. Demand for silos and manure storage tanks fell as farms started building larger ground level forage bunkers and lagoons. Our last silo was construction was in 2001.
With demand from farmers now becoming a thing of the past, we have shifted our emphasis to specializing in reinforced concrete water reservoirs and storage tanks. With more than 65 years of experience in concrete storage construction, we are the leader in the Pacific Northwest. In 1982, we increased our maximum height from 60? to 75? to match required head pressure standards. In 1985, we added a 30? diameter slip form system to our standard 14?, 20? and 26? sizes. In 1988, Baker Silo bought out our main competition, Alpha Enterprises giving us greater assets, options and knowledge in the reservoir construction business.
With the code changes of 2009, all of our reservoirs over 10? tall now have a 12? thick concrete wall. We continue to modify and improve the accessory designs to meet the latest standards and incorporate the latest technological improvements. Our structural designs for the concrete foundations, walls and roofs are continually being reviewed and modified to meet the latest code changes and industry standards.
Baker Silo has established itself as the leader in concrete potable water storage tanks ranging from 10,000 gallons to 300,000 gallons. We have pre-engineered reservoirs in 4 different diameters and 5? increments. The height of these tanks range from 10 feet to 75 feet tall. We also have a more flexible (although not quite as efficient) forming system which allows us to build any diameter above 30 feet and go as tall as needed to provide for any water storage needs up to a 1,000,000 gallons or more. Give us a call to see how we can help you with your water storage needs.
